
Amongst the list of carbon-dioxide emitting countries, China tops first, followed by the U.S. This was calculated by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency using the carbon dioxide emissions produced last year, whereby China's carbon dioxide emissions increased by 3.1 percent.
China now accounts for almost one quarter of the total global emissions, and the U.S. following with 21 percent of total global emissions.
The oldest European Union members (EU-15) is third-most producing, accounting for 12 percent, and India follows fourth, accounting for 8 percent of total global emissions.
China tops the list of carbon-dioxide emitting countries, followed by the U.S., the fifteen oldest European Union members and India.
China's carbon dioxide emissions accounted for two thirds of last year's global increase of 3.1 percent, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, based in Bilthoven, said yesterday in a statement on its Web site.
