Get Eco Friendly For Winter

Winter is on its way. If your looking for some tips to be eco friendly this winter and also save some money, you have come to the right place.

Let's start where the most energy is lost in a house, at the windows. Check that all windows are leak free and no wind passes around them. You can do this by closing the window and feeling around for cool air. If you feel cool air blowing through, use some silicon (and possibly some insulation) to patch it up.

Windows are also very bad for insulation, meaning that they're not good at keeping cool in the summer and warm in the winter. To improve this, you can use thick curtains to help maintain the temperature inside the house longer. The only exception is to open up the curtains if the sun is directly beaming in the window (to warm up the house of course).

Remember, heat rises and cold air falls. This is why you should make sure your attic is also leak free. Check for air and light that passes through your roof or side walls in your attic and make sure to patch it up.

Shutdown rooms in your house that you don't use. It's expensive to heat up rooms in your house, so if your not using them, or if it's just for storage of older furniture, why heat them up all winter?

Lastly, wear longer clothing and thicker pajamas when going to sleep. This way you don't have to be running the furnace all day and you can save some money. Your body produces a lot of its own heat, so make sure to keep it insulated to help maintain that heat.
