If you are an avid gamer, it is often difficult to be environmentally concerned with new games out on the market. So, how do you save the planet without sacrificing your gaming fun? Below are a few simple tips we have compiled to help you become a greener gamer.

1. 3 R's Are The Key
Reduce, reuse and recycle. This is an easy and simple rule that any avid gamer can follow. Reduce the amount of new games you purchase by purchasing (re-using) used games. Re-selling your old games and buying used ones can really reduce the amount of games ending up in landfills each year. Plus, re-using old games saves you money as well!

2. Donate
With newer and better systems and games coming out, what will you do with your old ones? Why not donate your used consoles or games to your local charity or Goodwill office, such as Child`s Play. Or, consider recycling it by finding your local recycling depot.

3. Use Rechargeable Batteries
Wireless controllers might be the new revolution of gaming, however they are not very eco-friendly in the sense that they use batteries. However, in your attempts to help save the planet, you can opt out from using regular double-A's to using rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydroxide (NiMH) batteries, which last you longer than regular double-A's, and will save you a heck of a lot more money in the end. Don't forget to properly dispose of your no-good batteries in the end!

4. Unplug When Not In Use
Even when you don't use your console, it is still sucking up power, making it a silent power-killer. Consider the planet next time you decide to take a break from gaming or are going away on vacation: unplug your consoles.

5. Ditch the Dino-Computer With A Sleek Lap-Top
Everyone you know have had (or currently own) a dino-computer. You know, those big, energy-consuming machines. Even though they are energy star certified, buying a new computer might not be very eco-friendly. Think of the amounts of matetials needed to make one computer in comparison to a lap top. Buying a gaming lap top will not only reduce energy consumption and materials needed, but will also reduce purchasing a computer desk (save the trees!). Bonus: Lap tops are light and convenient, and can be carried any where, from your living room couch to the airplane, and you will have your favourite games everywhere you go!
