Top Most Eco-friendly and Economical CPU's Chart

Jason99's picture

It is now time that people start factoring in what is Eco-friendly, mainly because Eco-friendly is quickly becoming the new economical. This is especially true for CPU's as they can be a major power hog with computers running almost 24/7 nowadays. Let the battle for the most Eco-friendly (and economical) CPU begin.

The most Eco-friendly and economical desktop CPU will be based on the following properties:

  • Energy consumption of CPU
  • Cost of CPU
  • Clock rate of CPU (multiplied by number of cores)

The following CPU's will be used in this calculation:

  • Intel Core i7 930 Processor
  • Intel Core i7 920 Processor
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Processor
  • AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor
  • Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition Processor
  • AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Processor
CPU Energy Consumption Cost Combined Clock Rate of Cores
Intel Core i7 930 130W $300 2.80*4GHz
Intel Core i7 920 130W $270 2.66*4GHz
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 95W $270 2.83*4Ghz
AMD Phenom II 1055T 125W $200 2.80*6GHz
Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition 130W $1000 3.33*6GHz
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 125W $160 3.20*4GHz

Now, the formula that will be used for this calculation is as follows (lower is better):

(Energy Consumption * Cost) / Combined Clock Rate of Cores

Here are the results, with the most efficient and economical desktop CPU's on top:

  1. AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor [Result=1488]
  2. AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Processor [Result=1563]
  3. Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Processor [Result=2266]
  4. Intel Core i7 920 Processor [Result=3299]
  5. Intel Core i7 930 Processor [Result=3482]
  6. Intel Core i7 980X Extreme Edition Processor [Result=6507]

I just got the AMD Phenom II 1055T Six Core Processor.

Great six core processor from AMD, and to know that it's Eco-friendly, that's real cool, especially since I'm the PRESIDENT of my enviro-club at school. LOL
